About This Site

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), located in the beautiful Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts, is a small, public, residential institution, with both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Massachusetts College has moderately selective admission, small classes, and individualized attention -- offering a challenging curriculum that provides flexibility for motivated students to shape their own course of study and encourages them to combine traditional course work with experiential learning. In keeping with our mission, a new Core Curriculum has been developed providing an interdisciplinary approach to general education. Massachusetts College also offers students an opportunity to study abroad in over 39 different colleges and countries.

Previously North Adams State College, the institution adopted a more focused liberal arts and sciences mission in 1992, was designated the public liberal arts college of Massachusetts in 1993, and was awarded its new name by the Legislature and Governor in 1997.
